I’m in high school and I was wondering what kind of art work is Parsons Art school looking for. As well, what should the portfolio look like? How well does the art have to be? My school work is fine, having a GPA of a 4.2. But what kind of art work are they looking for, considering high school art classes have limited resources.

you have to check their website, also what program are you applying for, fine art, interior design, architecture etc?
If you can’t find the info on their website phone them.
They do offer portfolio review days if you live close enough sign up for one.

Rest assured, the majority of people applying will come straight from highschool so you all have a level playing field. Commonly they look for a variety of techniques and subjects, usually a self portrait should be included.

um how do you have a 4.2 and why isn’t your art teacher helping you? they have their portfolio requirements on their web site and specific days I think to have them look at your work

best to have things looking professional appearance does matter in this case you are selling yourself to them. have you pictures under a protection individually. you can find cases at the art store. I would have life drawings handy they can be gestures. (I have nudes in mine but when I was in high school everyone was clothed) you want to pic your best work, not necessarily what you think is your best work. pick out a bunch of things and show it to ten different people, older younger whatever. have them tell you which ones they like the best any why. that will help you form what might be good. but it you really like one thing and no one else does shoot put it in anyway after all it is your portfolio. in your going into general fine arts I would have a few paintings a few drawings a couple sculptures maybe a print or two. good luck
